2009 VOLUNTEER INFORMATION

Hello Cherry Creek Arts Festival Volunteers!

The Festival almost here and we are so grateful for your participation. I mean it when I say we could not have this event without you! There are only a few more items left for you to do:

1)    Watch the Volunteer Training video. It will give you general information on this year’s Cherry Creek Arts Festival and offer a broad overview of the event. This on-line video replaces the volunteer training that we have had in the past – the CCAF is going green! To view the video click on:

The video is also available on YouTube

2)   Read the Volunteer Handbook. This updated handbook will include all the details of this year’s Cherry Creek Arts Festival including parking, volunteer check-in, benefits and more.

2009 VOLUNTEER APPLICATION

19th Annual Cherry Creek Arts Festival
July 3/4/5, 2009

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the
Cherry Creek Arts Festival!

Volunteers are the backbone of the Cherry Creek Arts Festival. The difference between a good volunteer program and a great one is that the volunteers have a wonderful time while they are working for the event.

A team of almost 1,000 volunteers are needed to produce the Cherry Creek Arts Festival each year. The Cherry Creek Arts Festival's mission is to provide access to a broad array of arts experiences and support arts education in Colorado. Our volunteer team understands that mission and works towards its goals by volunteering for one of our many committees during the event.

At the Cherry Creek Arts Festival, our volunteers play a huge part in our success!

2009 VOLUNTEER PROGRAM INFORMATION

19th Annual Cherry Creek Arts Festival
July 3/4/5, 2009

Attendance
We depend on your commitment to participate. Your presence and prompt arrival for your scheduled shifts are absolutely necessary. VERY IMPORTANT: If your schedule must change, or if you have an emergency, please contact us immediately!

Arrivals & Breaks
You must check in at the Volunteer Headquarters (Location TBD) at the beginning of each shift you work. Please try to arrive 20-30 minutes early. Volunteers will receive breaks for each shift, which will be coordinated by Committee Chairs.

T-shirt
Every volunteer receives the Official Cherry Creek Arts Festival Volunteer T-shirt. This shirt must be worn while you are working at the Arts Festival. Please do not make any alterations to your T-shirt while you are volunteering for the CCAF. An opportunity to receive your t-shirt will be provided prior to the event.

Training
All volunteers, new and returning, are requested to review the Volunteer Handbook prior to the Arts Festival. The Handbook and other information will be sent to you prior to the event. Things change every year and it is vital that you know the new information.

Meals and beverages
Volunteers will be offered a variety of snacks and beverages before and during their shift, along with a meal token to be used at any of the on-site food vendor booths. Alcoholic beverages may not be consumed before or during a volunteer's shift

COMMITTEE INFORMATION

Art Auction
The Art Auction helps fund the Arts Festival's year round art education program. Join this exciting committee in coordinating the set-up and operation of the silent online auction consisting of over 150 donated pieces from our exhibiting artists. Help change the landscape of art education in our community. Computer skills are welcome but not a necessity! Chair: Jim Penta

Artist Demonstrations
Get an intimate look at the process as exhibiting artists reveal their secrets during the Artist Demonstrations. Committee volunteers assist with set-up and take-down of the artists' materials on stage, assist artists with their equipment, technical support, announcing the introduction of the artists, and booth-sit during demonstrations. Demonstrations take place Friday & Saturday, 11am-5pm and Sunday, 11am-3pm. This committee requires a full day commitment, yet is a shorter day. Chairs: Ilse Hoffman, Tom Fears

Artist Relations
How would you like to be part of our Artists Relations team and enjoy a one to one experience with our visiting artists? Our main responsibility is to provide a high level of hospitality as well as act as their main contact for daily information as well as provide ongoing breaks and refreshments. All in all, our goal is to create an all round positive experience for all of the artists. Chairs: Diane Andrich, Judy Genrich, George Hernandez, Toni Knight, Rick Lupinetti, Barbara Weller

Artists Relations consists of the following three teams. Give them each a try if you'd like. You'll be glad you did!
Artist Hospitality Center  Hospitality Center volunteers greet the artists and oversee the center where refreshments and information flow as well as great conversation exchanged between you and the artists throughout each day of the festival.
Booth Sitting  Booth sitters provide ongoing relief to the artists from their booths in order for them to take needed breaks during the hours of the festival. The booth sitter oversees the artist's booth as well as communicates with the festival visitors. This is a great way to talk to the visitors and get to know the artists and their art.
Artist Errands  You too can become a hero and create a positive experience for the artist while having a great time. The Artists Errands team delivers cool beverages and delicious snacks to the artists throughout the Arts Festival site. The Artists Errand team is always a welcome sight and is a great way to get to know the artists as well as view the art throughout the festival.

Beverage Coordination
Ensure that Product Suppliers are fulfilling the needs of Non-Profit Organizations, who staff and run beverage stands. Volunteers will be involved with inventory management and coordination of product distribution. If you are over 21 years of age, like to see all areas of the Arts Festival, do a lot of walking and interface with individuals from various organizations, this is the committee for you. Some lifting may be required. Chairs: Mark Wiebe, Duane Thompson

Creation Station
This award winning activity area features interactive arts projects for children. Be prepared to laugh and watch kids create masterpieces. We need your help staffing activities, organizing materials and helping kids have a wonderful time. Become a team leader by overseeing an activity for the entire day including supply distribution, volunteer management and production needs. Chairs: Eddie Guerrero, Daniel James, Dan Kopper, Jill-Ellyn Straus, Nancy Vahling

Culinary Arts
Oversee the overall cleanliness, appearance and general operations of culinary areas. Volunteers do not cook, serve food or work in the food booths. Volunteers notify the culinary Chair when change is needed, trash pick up is required, if there is a problem with propane or electrical service, or any situation which might present a health or safety issue for the vendors, volunteers or festival guests. Chairs: Ruth Brassell, Sue DeVille, Jan Humphries

Culinary Demonstration
Volunteers with this tasty committee will get an up close look at the artistry of culinary creations. A variety of duties such as assisting with seating, acting as liaison between chefs/chef assistants and audience, serving samples prepared during the demonstrations, and keeping the area neat and tidy are among a few of the responsibilities you will be asked to perform. Shift #1; 10:30am – 2:00pm and shift #2: 2:00pm – 6:30pm (5:30 on Sunday). Volunteers are required to be 21 years of age or over.

Festival Ambassadors
Festival Ambassador volunteers are the #1 hosts and the eyes and ears of the Arts Festival. This elite group will wear a special Festival T-shirt and will be the first to meet and greet Arts Festival guests. Festival Ambassadors need a smiling face and a friendly attitude. Ambassadors will offer assistance, contact security when needed, distribute Festival Guide Magazines, answer questions, give directions, distribute sunscreen, help to keep the Arts Festival a safe place and, most of all, make our guests feel welcome. Chairs: Greg Breen, Rod Fiore, Millie Grant, Karen Mauler, Mona Pompili, John Trueblood

Festival Research
This position is looking for outgoing, personable individuals who love interacting with people of all ages! Volunteers on this committee will improve overall festival presentation / production and customer service at all levels. The goal is to not only point out possible areas of improvement but to also highlight successes. Volunteers will be gathering information using a questionnaire. Depending on the information garnered, changes will be made to improve the CCAF experience. In addition, this position also asks for volunteers interested in learning a valuable computer program called SPSS and would enjoy data entry in an air-conditioned office only on Sunday July 5th! Chairs: Jane Cunningham, Mark Martinez

Finance

Flexibility is much appreciated! Accounting, banking and/or cash handling experience preferred but not required.
