Colorado’s Signature Cultural Event
Cherry Creek Arts Festival
Denver, CO
By R. Tony Smith

The Rocky Mountains, world-renown skiing, 300 days of sunshine, Broncos football… and the Cherry Creek Arts Festival – all commonly known and well-regarded hallmarks of the Mile High City: Denver, Colorado.

The Cherry Creek Arts Festival (CCAF) July 4th weekend event is a world-class and award-winning celebration of the visual, culinary and performing arts, and enjoys an attendance of 350,000 visitors over the 3-day event. CCAF gives patrons the FREE, rare and special opportunity to meet and talk with international visual artists, sample fine cuisine, visit special exhibits and artist demonstrations, and entertain their families with interactive 'Artivities' and exciting performing arts.

For 2008, there are 231 juried artists and 8 “Emerging Artists”. Artists were chosen in a blind-jury process from 2,231 artist applications from around the nation and several other countries, making it one of the most competitive shows for visual artists annually. The exhibiting visual artists are what’s new for 2008: 156 artists are new for 2008.

Other new and exciting activities can be enjoyed before heading to the CCAF by visiting their innovative site, Podcast.CherryArts.org. Visitors to this site can watch an all-new and exciting overview video and enjoy other 2008 mixed-media videos previewing juried visual artists, performing artists, and many, many more peeks of what’s to come for the upcoming arts festival. In addition to these videos, one can learn more about the art and education programs also produced by CCAF.

Along with the arts festival itself, CCAF fulfills its year-round 501(c)(3) not-for-profit mission of art education and outreach through programs including the Mobile Art Collection, Artist in Residence programs and the Student Art Buying Program. Other highly touted but lesser-known aspects of the year-round arts festival organization include CCAF’s top awards in both the festival and the visual arts industries. The arts festival has won the International Festival and Events Association “Gold Grand Pinnacle Award” a record-setting four times, and was rated as the #1  Visual Arts Show in 2005 by ArtFair Sourcebook.

The CCAF annually takes place 4th of July weekend, and the 18th Annual Cherry Creek Arts Festival is July 4, 5, 6, 2008. The hours are 10:00am to 8:00pm Friday July 4th and Saturday July 5th, and 10:00am to 6:00pm on Sunday July 6th. On Friday and Saturday night July 4th and 5th, “Festival Nights” continue on Fillmore Plaza from 8:00pm to 10:00pm – and the annual “Fireworks Spectacular” takes place near Fillmore Plaza on Saturday July 5th at 9:30pm. The CCAF is located in Denver’s beautiful and unique Cherry Creek North Shopping District, from 2nd to 3rd Avenues, on the six streets starting on Clayton through Steele Streets.

Just following the CCAF in July will be the 2008 Democratic National Convention (DNC) in August, and all eyes will be on Denver. CCAF producers are excited for the many additional people to be in town and invite all to experience Colorado’s signature cultural event, the Cherry Creek Arts Festival.
